The Antelope Creek Fire, which sparked July 4th north of Antelope, OR and burned 1,261 acres in grass and brush, has reached 80% containment. BLM Prineville District and ODF crews worked through the holiday weekend to contain the blaze.

Two Pacific Northwest fires that flared last week are showing improved containment: the Crawford Oaks Fire in Klickitat County, Washington is 90 percent contained after triggering 'Go Now' evacuations and closing SR 14, while the Shingle Creek Fire near Riggins, Idaho is 80 percent contained.

The Antelope Creek Fire ignited July 4 just north of Antelope, Oregon, and has grown to over 1,200 acres in grass and brush. The small Wasco County community is on a Level 2 'Be Set' evacuation warning as BLM crews work to contain the blaze.

The National Interagency Fire Center reports an unusually active start to the 2026 fire season, with 40 large fires burning across 13 states, more than 3.2 million acres burned year-to-date, and the nation at National Preparedness Level 4.

The 635-acre Shingle Creek Fire near Riggins, Idaho has reached 77% containment and Northern Rockies Team 1 is preparing to hand management to local crews. Rain and elevated humidity moderated fire behavior after the blaze threatened the Rapid River Fish Hatchery.

Emily Barker, 38; Nick Hutcherson, 27; and Sydney Watson, 27, were killed in a burnover on the Knowles Fire in western Colorado on June 27. The incident is under investigation as the Snyder Fire grows to 28,000+ acres.

The Upriver Fire near Spokane burned 213 acres before being contained, but not before destroying 14 primary structures and killing one person. The human-caused fire was wind-driven into a residential area during dangerous Red Flag conditions.

Idaho's Shingle Creek Fire is burning 614 acres near Riggins as the state enters its most dangerous fire months. NIFC lists Idaho among states with large active fires as national resources are stretched across the West.

The Shingle Creek Fire near Riggins, Idaho has burned 614 acres with 0% containment, prompting a Northern Rockies Type 1 IMT takeover. The Rapid River Fish Hatchery and trail corridor remain threatened.

The Kartar Fire on Washington's Colville Reservation is now essentially contained at 11,746 acres after a rapid growth period that forced evacuations along Omak Lake. Incident command transitions to a Type 4 team on June 25 as mop-up and patrol operations begin.

The Upriver Fire near Spokane, Washington is 75 percent contained after destroying at least 15 homes. Evacuation orders have been downgraded, but conditions across eastern Washington remain primed for fire.

Three notable wildfires are burning across Idaho this week -- in Shoshone County near Kellogg, outside Riggins in Idaho County, and near Pocatello in Bannock County.

The Upriver Fire east of Spokane killed one person and destroyed at least 15 structures before reaching 60% containment by June 21. Over 11,000 residents were evacuated at the peak of the emergency.

Oregon’s Old Emigrant Fire near Pendleton has reached 60% containment at 1,500 acres, while Idaho’s Gold Run Fire near Kellogg stands at 300 acres and 20% contained. Oregon’s Cable Creek Fire is now fully contained.

The Median Fire burned approximately 8,600 acres near Wendell, Idaho, this week after being ignited by a vehicle. BLM and Great Basin crews halted the fire's forward progress. A second fire near Mountain Home, the Cangrant Fire, also emerged June 18.

The Roza Fire near Selah grew to nearly 4,000 acres and temporarily closed Interstate 82 between Ellensburg and Yakima. Meanwhile, firefighters have achieved 50% containment on the 13,000-acre Juniper Dunes Fire near Pasco.

The Tucannon Fire in Columbia County has grown to 7,732 acres and is only 10% contained. Washington State Patrol authorized state fire mobilization after the fire rapidly spread through grass and brush east of Dayton.
